This month we have news about our new carbon baseline and forecasting tool and Lead Officer vacancy. Also, don’t miss out on registering for the second annual STB Conference on Monday 5th June. You can find full details of the day’s events below.
Plus, a reminder that the engagement period for ‘Making the right choices: Issues and opportunities for the Strategic Transport Plan 2025-2050’ closes on Friday 19th May.
New carbon baseline and forecasting tool
Given the importance of decarbonisation, Western Gateway STB is developing a spreadsheet-based carbon emissions baseline and forecasting tool. This transparent and user-adjustable tool can model the effects that different interventions and measures could have on transport carbon emissions within the Western Gateway STB region.
The tool also allows users to focus on any of our constituent local authorities, making it a valuable asset in the development of our emerging Strategic Transport Plan as well as for Local Transport Plans developed by our region’s local transport authorities.
The first workshop has been held with officers from our local authorities, to demonstrate how the tool works and to gain feedback on how it can be used and developed.

Making the right choices
Western Gateway STB has launched engagement on the issues and opportunities that will shape the region’s long-term Strategic Transport Plan to 2050.
Make sure you have your say on the issues and opportunities that will shape the region’s long-term Strategic Transport Plan before engagement closes on Friday 19th May.
‘Making the right choices: Issues and opportunities for the Strategic Transport Plan 2025-2050’ sets out the issues facing the Western Gateway STB area, including planned housing growth and the need to enable economic growth while addressing the predominant issue of decarbonisation.
It examines regional concerns about car use and congestion, rural journeys, freight and connectivity, and sets out an assortment of opportunities that could be combined to help address these issues. These opportunities range from improving rail, bus and coach services and increasing multi-modal journeys to promoting active travel and alternative fuels.
Responses are requested to five key questions that will determine if the right issues and opportunities have been considered and what the priorities should be for the region as we develop our long-term Strategic Transport Plan.
The engagement period closes on Friday 19th May 2023.
