In 2024, the first round of our rural mobility transport schemes was launched, and we’re now pleased to publish the evaluation report.
The projects in the first round of schemes included:
- A Low Carbon Shared Mobility Club in the Forest of Dean – an Electric Vehicle (EV) car club and e-bike hire scheme, led by Forest of Dean District Council.
- Bridport-West Bay Community Bus Service – a low-cost weekend shuttle bus, delivered by Bridport Town Council and Dorset Community Transport.
- Developing Low Carbon and Inclusive Access to Rural Spaces (South Cotswolds & Vale of Berkeley) – a demand-responsive transport (DRT) engagement and awareness campaign, led by Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership.
- The Bodmin and Lanivet Community Bus Scheme – a pilot project to create a sustainable, community-led transport network, led by Lanivet Parish Community Centre.
The first three schemes were funded by Western Gateway STB, while the forth scheme (The Bodmin and Lanivet Community Bus), was funded by our neighbouring STB, Peninsula Transport.
This evaluation report details the performance of the pilots, lessons learnt, environmental impacts, challenges and successes of each scheme.
As applications open for the third round of rural scheme funding (the second round are still in the midst of their pilot phase), it is useful for the schemes and the STBs to reflect on the first round and learn from the challenges in order to make them run as smoothly as possible.
