Adi, our Transport Officer, and Mena, our Project Manager, were pleased to take part in the University of the West of England’s (UWE) recent roundtable panel and “Meet the Employers” networking events for Geography and Environmental Management students.

The sessions – organised by UWE’s Careers and Enterprise Development team, gave students the opportunity to hear from industry professionals, ask questions about career pathways, and gain practical insight into working in the transport and infrastructure sector. Ahead of the events, students were coached on how to shape meaningful conversations with employers, which created a relaxed and constructive atmosphere throughout the day.
As representatives of Western Gateway STB, Adi and Mena found the experience extremely valuable. They shared details about our work across the region and highlighted the wide range of opportunities available in transport planning, decarbonisation, infrastructure delivery, and future mobility innovation.
Students engaged enthusiastically, asking thoughtful questions about careers in transport and how small and large-scale strategic projects are developed and delivered. Some expressed strong interest in exploring transport as a future career, and the event gave them a chance to understand how their academic backgrounds connect to real-world roles.
Western Gateway STB is committed to supporting the next generation of talent and strengthening connections between education and industry. We look forward to continuing to provide insight and opportunities to students who want to help shape the region’s transport future.
