Western Gateway and Peninsula Transport STBs collaborate on rural mobility study

Western Gateway and Peninsula Transport STBs collaborate on rural mobility study

Rural communities are facing ongoing reduction in passenger transport services which inevitably results in a greater dependency on the private car.  To address this, the Western Gateway STB together with Peninsula Transport STB have commissioned consultants WSP to undertake a rural mobility study covering the South West of England.

The aim of the study is to identify the challenges faced by rural areas and those with the most pressing transport needs. The study will recommend pilot projects to be trialled. The pilots would be subject to future funding, and if deemed successful would be used as templates to roll out various measures to improve rural mobility across South West England.

The study is underway and a report will be available by March 2022.

Peninsula Transport is the shadow sub-national transport body formed by the five lead transport authorities in the South West peninsula – Cornwall Council, Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, Somerset County Council and Torbay Council.
