Western Gateway STB launches ‘Making the right choices’ engagement
As Western Gateway STB (Sub-national Transport Body) prepares to develop its Strategic Transport Plan up to 2050, it is seeking views to help define and achieve its aims across all transport modes over the plan period.
‘Making the right choices: Issues and opportunities for the Strategic Transport Plan 2025-2050’ sets out the issues facing the Western Gateway STB area, including planned housing growth and the need to enable economic growth while addressing the predominant issue of decarbonisation. It examines regional concerns about car use and congestion, rural journeys, freight and connectivity, and sets out an assortment of opportunities that could be combined to help address these issues. These opportunities range from improving rail, bus and coach services and increasing multi-modal journeys to promoting active travel and alternative fuels.
To help inform Western Gateway STB’s long-term Strategic Transport Plan, ‘Making the right choices’ asks for views on the issues and opportunities that have been identified. Responses are requested to five key questions that will determine if the right issues and opportunities have been considered and what the priorities should be for the region.
Cllr Mike Greene, Western Gateway STB Chair, said: “Western Gateway STB’s vision is to speak with one regional voice to design a long-term investment programme that will deliver a well-connected, clean, resilient and reliable strategic transport system that creates opportunities, boosts productivity and provides a better quality of life for people across the region. We look forward to hearing views about how we can best achieve this as we work to develop our Strategic Transport Plan 2025-2050.”
‘Making the right choices: Issues and opportunities for the Strategic Transport Plan 2025-2050’ can be accessed online here or by emailing WesternGatewaySTB@westofengland-ca.gov.uk.
The engagement period is now open and closes on Friday 19th May 2023.
